Eddie‘s Story

Meet Eddie, our inspiring Mental Health First Aid trainer

When it comes to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), few people can match the knowledge and experience of Eddie Barry.

With over 12 years as a Mental Health Community Crisis team member and Acute Clinical Educator, and 18 years as a Paramedic with NSW Ambulance in inner-Sydney, Eddie certainly has the credentials to deliver MHFA.

Eddie’s impressive resume is backed by more than three decades of frontline mental health first aid, including crisis interventions at homes, workplaces, pubs, and even on the street. His training sessions not only impart vital skills but also draw from his lived experiences, adding a real-life perspective to the learning.

A passion born from personal experience

Eddie’s commitment to mental health support is deeply personal. Growing up, he watched his mother, face significant challenges. “My mum had a childhood of trauma and faced the pressures and isolation of immigrating from Ireland with four kids,” shares Eddie. “Her experience with multiple mental health diagnoses taught me invaluable lessons that shaped my communication skills, studies, and ultimately, my career.”
